Kitchen Assistant
Annual Salary: £12,824 per annum (FTE £24,703)
Working hours: 9:30-2:30pm Monday-Friday (25 hours) term time only
Job Description
Main purpose
To provide a quality catering service which supports the wellbeing of pupils and staff in line with the school’s ethos. This includes meeting school catering and health and safety standards.
Duties and responsibilities
- Meal provision
- Prep cook and serve lunches for the pupils and staff of Michael Hall School daily during the school day
- Provide good quality school lunchtime meals in line with government guidelines and legislation on school nutrition standards
- Cater to special dietary requirements and ensure that allergy information is effectively communicated and labelled
- Fully clean the work environment after every provision
- Ensure the provision is inline with the school’s ethos
- Promoting healthy eating, cultural diversity and encouraging pupils to try new foods
- Contribute to menu planning when needed with organic/free-range, seasonal and wholesome meals with fresh local ingredients, under Head Chef instruction
- Support with the management of food stocks to prevent shortages or excess supply and adhere to the catering budget
- Minimise food wastage
- Contribute to the support of the development of the vision for the food provision at Michael Hall School
Working in a team
- Promote morale and wellbeing among the team
- Promote a friendly working relationship with colleagues
- Promote a good company image to customers and guests and use positive customer service practices
- Support with cover in times of staff absence
Health and safety
- Ensure that the kitchen and dining area are kept clean and hygienic at all times
- Ensure that kitchen equipment is used safely and according to operating manuals
- Adhere to proper hygiene procedures, including wearing the correct uniform
- Follow the cleaning schedules to necessary standards
- Record all accidents and incidents
- To report any incident of accident, fire, theft, loss, damage, and act as may be appropriate or possible
- Contribute to ensuring the compliance of school catering standards legislation, under Head Chef instruction
- Contribute to ensuring that HACCP procedures, legal and company regulations regarding hygiene, food, health, and safety are complied with, under Head Chef instruction
- Contribute to ensuring that EHO expectations are met, and be the direct contact with the EHO for registration and upkeep of SFBB, under Head Chef instruction
- Contribute towards creating and maintaining the school’s food safety policy, health and safety policy, and allergens policy, under Head Chef instruction
Other areas of responsibility
Safeguarding
- Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (including Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies
- Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school
Other
- To undertake occasional duties outside the normal routine but within the scope of the position and the department’s activities
- Option to assist, at special functions such as lettings, some of which may occur outside normal working hours, for which you will be paid overtime
- To report any complaint or compliment and act if possible
- To attend meetings and courses, as require
- Working alongside the Estates Manager and the Site Team; and the School’s Market Gardener, reporting to the Head of Operations
